Brief Introduction

Located in a 40 square-kilometer-nearly basin and screened by mountains on three sides, Ming Tombs is the largest clusters of imperial cemeteries in China. The sizes of these mausoleums are various but their layout and arrangement are very similar. Each tomb complex, being against a hill and having a river in the front, starts with a stone bridge, followed by a front gate, and a stele pavilion. Though all these mausoleums have distinctly different figures, they show a harmonious Unity. In 1961, the Ming Tombs was inscribed on the first list of historical and cultural relic under top state protection by the State Council. In July 2003, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee inscribed the Ming Tombs as a historical site. Now the Sacred Way, Changling, Dingling, and Zhaoling have been opened as tourist attractions. So when you make a Tianjin Xingang Port Beijing transfer and tour, you should not miss them.
History of Ming Tombs
First built in 1409, Ming Tombs took more than 200 years to complete until the doom of the dynasty. The earliest tomb is Changling where emperor Yongle buried, and the succeeding twelve emperors had their tombs built around it. Ruled China from 1368 to 1644, there were sixteen emperors during the period of Ming Dynasty.
In ancient times, most people thought that although dead physically, a person's soul remained, and still having human's needs. Consequently, Ming Tombs look like imperial palaces. Our ancestors always consider that the traditional Chinese Fengshui and geomancy are very important. So the whole process from site
selection to designing of the mausoleums paid attention to harmony between the tomb architecture and the surrounding environment—mountains, rivers and vegetation. All of them embody the philosophical view that man is an integral part of nature.
With a long history, Ming Tombs has become one of the key attractions in Beijing. It is a must for your Tianjin Xingang Port Beijing transfer and tour.
